How can I create my own Select and True/False buttons?

If you wish to create your own custom button images using Photoshop or some other image editing software, then you will need to create three variations of Select button, or seven variations of True/False button. They must all be the same size as each other (the same dimensions in pixels). If you open some of the buttons in the Buttons folder inside the Question Tools folder (which should normally be inside the Programs Folder on C drive) you should quickly get an idea about the variations of button needed.

To import custom button images:

  • Select the True/False or Select button you wish to customise.
  • Press the Custom Images button in the Button tab of the Inspector.
  • A dialog window will appear. Click on the plus buttons to import the different images.

Creating a new button style

If you wish you can create your own button style. Create the button graphic variations as described above. Then find the Buttons folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\Question Tools\Buttons). Make sure your buttons have the same names as the graphics inside the Buttons folder (i.e. follow the same naming convention). Create a new folder in the Buttons folder and give it the same name as your style. Put your button images inside your new folder. Next time you start Question Tools Editor your button style will appear in the Style menu in the Buttons tab of the Screen Inspector.

Problem. My style appears in the Button tab Style menu, but when I select it my button graphics are missing. First, check that you have copied your button graphics to your new folder. Second, check that you have named them correctly (have a look inside any other folder in the Buttons folder to see how this is done) — file names should be lowercase. Remember also that you have to exit Question Tools Editor and start it again to see new style names.

Problem. I created the button style folder, but when I start Editor it does not appear. The name you have selected for your style may be too short.
